Didactics of Biology and Chemistry
The Lehr- und Forschungsgebiet ‚Biology and Chemistry Education‘ deals with the training of biology and chemistry teacher students’ pedagogical content knowledge enabling them to successfully plan, conduct and reflect teaching and learning processes.
The research focus of the department is the modeling of process-related competencies necessarily involved in learning scientific contents, e.g. scientific reasoning or sustainability reasoning processes. Learning environments are designed and tested empirically in order to evaluate their effectiveness. Learners are observed in learning situations or tested in surveys and the resulting data is analyzed via psychometrical procedures (classical and probabilistic test theory). Results from research inform pre- and in-service teacher training.
