Focus - Biomass Conservation

In terms of biomass protection and conservation, it will be crucial to guarantee and increase current production yields. This can be achieved, for example, by protecting the plants from stress factors. At the same time, the agricultural impacts on ecosystem stability have to be evaluated and effects of genetically modified organisms on the environment have to be minimized to an acceptable level through biological safety evaluations. The Biology Department with its existing expertises will concentrate on protection of biomass yields under stress conditions and minimization of effects on ecosystems. Many of the topics will be approached within institutional cooperations with external research partners (e.g. within the Bioeconomy Science Center) to cover the entire breath of this research field.
