Focus - Biomass Transformation

Nature Chem. Biol., Grand Challenge, 2010, 6: 875

Plant biomass can be microbially converted into products that are potential fuels, precursores that can be turned into fuels ("tailor-made fuels"), or starting material for the production of (bio)chemicals or biomaterials. The aim within the ABBt Biomass Transformation focus point is to utilize and expand the existing applied competences at RWTH Aachen University in collaboration with chemical scientists and engineers (e.g. within the Cluster of Excellence Tailor-made Fuels from Biomass). These competences will be completed with competences from Düsseldorf and Jülich (BioEconomy Science Center) for the optimization of transformation processes in the fields of bioenergy, value-added chemical production in plants, or provision of biogenic materials.
