External research internships
External research internships
External research internships have a scope of 12 CP. The internships comprise a practical part of 8 weeks in full-time. Furthermore, a comprehensive protocol of the practical work must be prepared and a final report must be given in the form of a presentation. These three criteria (practical work part, protocol and presentation) are basic requirements for recognition of the external research internship. All three criteria can be part of the grading basis, but at least the protocol and presentation must be included in the grading.
The internship must be approved by an authorized examiner as defined by the Biology Division. The department considers the person to be authorized to conduct examinations if he/she has a habilitation, is appointed or has an independent teaching assignment. The supervisor of the external research internship who is authorized to conduct examinations must confirm in writing the topic, the period and the grading of the internship.
As of WiSe 2021/2022, external research internships should be applied for to the Examination Committee prior to the start of the work. For the application, a one-page project plan must be submitted, which includes the period of the internship, the on-site supervision, the content as well as the examining person. If there is no authorized person available at the external institution, an internal expert opinion can be prepared - in this case, too, the authorized person must be known and must have agreed at the time of application. The application is made without a form by email. For final recognition of the internship, an application must be submitted to the examination board. The certificate of the person authorized to conduct the examination, including the grade awarded, the protocol prepared and the presentation given, must be attached to this application. The recognition takes place on new modules "External Research Internship" created especially for this purpose.
